Job Description
The Burnet Institute, an Australian NGO, is looking to employ experienced Lao national to fill he new position of ASSISTANT PROJECT OFFICER in order to implement the Maternal and Child Health Project in Muangvang Area, Savannakhet province.The details of the position are as follows:
Position: Assistant Project Officer: 1 position
Work station: Vientiane Capital with frequent travel to Muangvang Area, Savannakhet Province.
Starting date: As soon as possible
Contract duration: 1 year with 3 months of probation period.
Reports to: Research and Monitoring & Evaluation Manager
Main responsibilities:
– Support the formation and training of a multi-sectoral Project Implementation Team (PIT) in the project location
– Act as a primary point of contact for the PIT and local authorities for the ANCP MCH project
– Facilitate the delivery of a package of Mother and Child Health training under the project
– Assist organizing, coordinating, participating in, and/or facilitating all training workshops related to the project
– Follow up all project activities, including growth monitoring, health promotion, and diagnosis and management of malnutrition, as relevant
– Provide ongoing mentoring and support for local PIT
– Regularly liaise with government counterparts, including specifically district hospital and health office staff
– Assist with all aspects of the management and implementation of the project, including planning and budgeting
– Assist the PIT to prepare project activities monthly report
Other ad-hoc tasks as requested by direct supervisor or Country Program Manager
Professional experience required:
• Bachelor/diploma degree in medical doctor
• At least two years experience in primary health care OR/AND community health
• Knowledgeable and experienced in project management including planning, monitoring and
evaluation
• Experienced working with government counterparts
• Experienced working at the community level
Personal qualities required:
• Ability to work to agreed schedule, budget and deadlines
• Non-judgemental and objective attitudes
• Flexible/accommodative in all circumstances
• Good written and verbal communication skills in both Lao and English
• Knowledge of basic computing programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel
